Eluxolweni Child and Youth Care Centre (CYCC)

Eluxolweni Child and Youth Care Centre [CYCC] in Grahamstown/Makhanda cares for, nurtures and supports boys who would otherwise have no home or who have been removed from their homes by social workers. All boys placed at Eluxolweni have been legally placed by the Children's Court. It is the only registered child and youth care centre between East London and Port Elizabeth and King Williamstown and Graaff Reinet.
Our vision
  • To rehabilitate marginalised and abandoned children, including street children
  • To create a sustainable, loving, and supportive environment which will contribute to the quality of life, restoration of human dignity and self-worth of the young people we serve
  • To facilitate the physical, social, mental, spiritual, and educational development of each child
Who we work with
Our boys include violent, angry, depressed, substance-sniffing and drug-abusing children. They range in age from 8 to 18 years. These include:
  • children at risk of conflict with the law
  • children whose parents are in conflict with the law
  • children infected or affected by HlV/AlDS
  • children who have lived on the streets
  • neglected children from dysfunctional homes

We also work with the parents of these children and their communities .
